2 Dogs Protected Malaysian Muslim Group During Their Journey To Hike Gunung Nuang

In another touching story involving dogs and Muslims, a Malaysian Muslim recently shared a story when they were hiking Gunung Nuang with a group, and their encounter with 2 dogs who protected them all the way to the top.

Shared by ‎Firdaus Hisham to the Hiking & Camping Around Malaysia Facebook group, he recalled encountering the two dogs, affectionately named Tonny and Johnny, who acted as guards and companions from the start all the way to the end of their hiking trip.

He mentioned that they were very cautious of the dogs at first, afraid that the dogs will bite or lick their legs – something that is said to be avoided as much as possible in Islam. To their surprise the dogs simply followed them, and even when they split into groups, Johnny will guard the front while Tonny the rear.

The dogs acted as guides and protectors during the trip, and would threaten monkeys or gibbons in the forest to quiet down when they started shouting around the group. When wild dogs came to attack the group, Tonny bared his fangs and chased the wild dogs away.

They also suspected that the dogs had protected them from the supernatural in the forest based on their unusual behaviour!

Firdaus also reassured readers that they did not touch the dogs, but simply offered them food as sign of thanks for taking care of them. He thinks they might be the protectors of the mountain.

He ended his post saying his thanks to god for bringing these two dogs to them, and wondered what would become of them if Tonny and Johnny was not around to help.

Netizens who saw his post also shared their experience encountering dogs in the same mountain, saying they usually volunteer themselves as guides for any hikers.

Many more sang praises for these dogs, and commented that although they are Muslims, it does not stop them from loving dogs – although they do need to take extra precaution due to their religion.

Sepanjang perjalanan mereka menjaga kami.
