A 24-year-old Taiwanese man, Cheng Yu, and his 22-year-old girlfriend, Liang Ssu-Hui have been held incommunicado over the death of a 22-year-old aspiring model, Naomi Chen, who was found sexually abused and strangled to death, according to a Taipei court.
Cheng claimed to be a photographer and invited Naomi through his girlfriend to a photoshoot in an abandoned shopping mall in Bade Road, Songshan District, Taipei. It is learned that Liang and Naomi have been friends since 2 years ago.
After the villainous act, Cheng took Naomi’s valuables and disposed of her body in the underground carpark of the abandoned mall. The two then fled taking the MRT to the Taipei 101 mall and Kuanghua Market to shop before taking a Taiwan High-Speed Rail train to Tai Chung where they checked into a five-star hotel using Naomi’s stolen credit card.
Naomi’s family members tried calling repeatedly as they grew concerned about her whereabouts, and Liang allegedly responded with a text message telling them that Naomi was away from home and busy.
It was at the hotel where Cheng decided to dispose of Naomi’s mobile phone, however, it was discovered the following day by a hotel staff member. Upon inspecting the phone, it sparked suspicions on the couple given the recent news surrounding the model, Naomi’s death so he contacted the police.
Police officers arrived just in time and arrested the couple just as they were about to leave.
According to the court, Cheng admitted to murdering in order to silence the victim but did not sexually assaulted her, however, the police officers brought up evidence that the victim’s body had been undressed and her underwear was discovered a distance away, only then Cheng admitted to having raped the victim.
Although Cheng claimed his girlfriend was also at the scene of the crime, she denied these claims and insists she has nothing to do with her friend’s murder, CCTV footage shows otherwise as there was evidence of her involvement.
Unfortunately, this sort of cases can happen to anyone of any age, so it is advised that you bring along a few friends and keep your emergency number at hand or at speed dial . Especially those who aspire to be models, research who you are working with before actually meeting the person and don’t fall for scams like this.
