Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan tidak menolak UMNO akan menimbang kemungkinan meletak Menteri Kewangan Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz sebagai calon mereka pada pilihan raya umum ke-15 (PRU-15) nanti.
Setiausaha Agung UMNO itu bagaimanapun berkata Zafrul perlu terlebih dahulu memenangi hati akar umbi sekiranya mahu dicalonkan pada PRU nanti dan memiliki ciri-ciri “WALI” yang ditetapkan parti.
Ciri-ciri “WALI” tersebut adalah merujuk ciri-ciri boleh menang (winnable), diterima (acceptable) dan disukai (likeable) yang berkaliber serta berdaya.
Jelasnya lagi, Zafrul perlu bekerja lebih keras untuk menunjukkan kemampuannya dan parti akan membuat pertimbangan sewajarnya berhubung sama ada akan diletak sebagai calon atau sebaliknya.
“Ya, kita tidak nafilah. Mereka yang ada kebolehan dan ada aset, dan mereka yang ada jawatan juga adalah aset. Kalau kita nak lihat menteri kewangan (Tengku Zafrul), kita juga ada bekas Menteri Kewangan. Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani misalnya, jadi itu sebab saya sebut aset lama, aset baru, aset UMNO ni ada ramai dan tidak ada satu aset pun yang telah diumum dapat calon di mana, bukan?
“Cuma dia kena berusaha. Saya dapat laporan yang dia nak pergi Kuala Selangor.
Betulkah orang Kuala Selangor, AJK bahagian Kuala Selangor menerima? Kalau dia nak jadi ‘WALI’, dia kena berusaha, dan keputusan akhir itu tentulah akan dimuktamadkan kemudian oleh pucuk pimpinan tertinggi,” katanya dipetik laporan Utusan Malaysia.
Ahmad berkata, terdapat tiga proses dalam Barisan Nasional (BN) untuk menjadi calon pilihan raya, iaitu di peringkat bahagian, negeri dan pusat.
“Jika tiga-tiga proses itu dipersetujui terhadap satu-satu calon ataupun majoriti daripada tiga proses itu ataupun proses yang utama pucuk pimpinan bersetuju terhadap seseorang calon, maka barulah jadi. Bagaimanapun, peringkat pusat mempunyai kuasa untuk menentukan,” katanya lagi.
Terdahulu, Ketua UMNO Bahagian Sungai Besar Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos mencadangkan nama Zafrul untuk dijadikan sebagai ‘poster boy’ di Selangor pada PRU-15 akan datang sekiranya menerima persetujuan Pengerusi Badan Perhubungan UMNO negeri Tan Sri Noh Omar.
