The daughter of Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and her husband will be charged with a breach of the movement control order, police revealed this evening.
Bukit Aman CID director Huzir Mohamed said that Nurul Hidayah Ahmad Zahid and her husband Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff will be charged under regulations for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.
The couple had allegedly flouted the MCO when they met Deputy Environment Minister Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad at the environment ministry after an earlier meeting with Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.
Nurul Hidayah had posted a picture with Masrizal and her husband on Instagram, saying he was a family friend and a former aide to her father, who was deputy prime minister in the previous government.
Police subsequently began investigations under a Penal Code provision for negligence likely to spread the infection of any disease dangerous to life, as well as the infections diseases regulations.
In a statement, Huzir said: “The investigation papers were referred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers and we have been instructed to charge the couple under the infectious diseases regulations.”
Huzir advised the public against raising the perception that the police were not acting on this alleged breach of the MCO, stressing that no one is above the law.
It was previously reported that Nurul Hidayah had challenged her critics to file a police report instead of leaving comments on social media.
