The two, who attended school in Assunta National School, Petaling Jaya shared fond memories of their teen years. The one thing that attracted the most attention during the 2-hour live session was YB Nurul Izzah’s loyalty towards tudung bawal.
In case you didn’t know, tudung bawal is in the shape of a square and it’s made from voile. Voile is a combination of cotton, linen, and polyester.
Tudung bawal has become YB Nurul Izzah’s favorite choice since 20 years ago, you could say that she is an expert in styling her head scarf. She performed a tutorial on how she styled her headscarf in which Fara Fauzana failed to achieve!
Why YB Nurul Izzah loves tudung bawal
#1. The scarf is very absorbent
With the material being absorbent, it’s suitable for YB Nurul Izzah who is very active as it easily absorbs sweat. Compared to other headscarves that might leave sweat stains, tudung bawal is the best choice for active people.
#2. Most of YB Nurul Izzah’s tudung bawal collection including the latest ones are from the brand Bawal Exclusive
“But I always buy the simplest and lowest price.”
#3. She still keeps her tudung bawal since 1998
It has become her exclusive collection.
#4. There is a reason why she covers her chin with her headscarf
It is so that it will be easier to perform her daily prayers.
#5. She did try to wear a shawl, but only once.
In just 20 minutes of wearing a shawl, it became terribly messy, and she immediately went back to tudung bawal.
#6. Conserve the existence of tudung bawal
“If we do not continue wearing it, it will go extinct (disappear). We have to appreciate every woman with her own taste and choice in fashion. Those who choose to wear the tudung bawal will agree that it is very comfortable.”
#7. Good deeds
She doesn’t mind which businesses she buys her tudung bawal from, as long as every sale is allocated for charitable purposes.
#8. It’s very easy to style
YB Nurul Izzah shared her very quick and easy tutorial on the FB live, since YB has been styling her tudung for over 20 years, and she’s always in a rush, she’s very quick with her movements. Although we do not have the link to the Facebook live video, we hope this video tutorial is sufficient!

Climbing a wall for a concert
Fara Fauzana revealed that during their high school years YB Nurul Izzah was as mischievous as all of her friends were. I mean, come on, we were all mischievous when we were teens!
Fara recounted a funny memory when they wanted to attend Michael Jackson’s concert. The group of friends, including Nurul Izzah, had no tickets to the concert but they still found a way to watch the show.
“That time, we were in Form 4 or Form 5, we had no tickets, so we had to climb the wall. Some friends had asked Nurul Izzah to use her father’s name. But it has been her lifelong rule to never use her father’s name for something like this. She said if you want to enjoy, it’s your own issue. So they climbed the wall to the concert.
“Even in school, if the teachers called her ‘Nurul Izzah Anwar’, she will be extra alert.”
If we win, then we’ll be free

When asked among the siblings who is the closest to their father, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, she replied,
“My siblings, Nurul Nuha, Mohd Ehsan, Nurul Ilham, Nurul Iman, and Nurul Hana (six of them including Nurul Izzah). Hana worked abroad and recently returned home to surprise papa (Anwar Ibrahim). Nurul Hana was just 6 years old when papa was arrested.”
During the new campaign, Nurul Izzah did not only gain full support of the people, but her two younger siblings as well, Nurul Iman and Mohd Ehsan came together to assist YB Nurul Izzah in her campaigning.

The election campaign this time has brought the siblings closer and it has left a good impression.
“They (her two younger siblings) are doing their best to make sure we win. To them they believe that we will be free once we win.”
The family home in Segambut has history
Although YB Nurul Izzah’s family home is in Segambut, she travels to Seberang Jaya for work and she has also been elected as representative for Permatang Pauh.
“In Segambut Dalam, it’s papa’s father’s house. Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was arrested in a house near Bukit Damansara, he had planned to get the whole family together to stay in the Segambut home once he is released from jail.
“So he chose the house built since the 70s as a family home. What you can see now is the structure of the home from 35 years ago.
“I always appreciate the original name of places, that’s where our history and pride are. For example, South Bangsar should still remain as Kampung Kerinchi. In Singapore there are some places that do not change the original name of the place even though it has been through modernization.”
