The Miss Universe 2017 Pageant is about to get hot and spicy as our local beauty Samantha Katie James will grace the stage with a gown inspired by Malaysian flavors later this month on November 26, in Las Vegas!
On October 31, the 22-year-old beauty of Chinese-Brazillian descent showcased the creation, conceptualized by fashion designer Brian Khoo in a special preview held at MyEg Tower.
An alluring evening gown was designed to accentuate Samantha’s best features, her beautiful long legs. The red gown has a touch of sexy and a whole lot of class. No one would be able to look away from the lady in red, she’ll be turning heads in that gown!
Aside from that slaying red gown, Samantha also revealed what she would be wearing for the attention-grabbing National Costume segment.
Just like a typical pack of Nasi Lemak, the dress features recreations of steamed coconut milk rice with a dollop of sambal (spicy chili paste), garnished with cucumber slices, a sunny-side-up egg, fried anchovies, and roasted peanuts.
That’s not all, the nasi lemak-themed gown is complete with banana leaves for wings, just like the Victoria Secret Angels!
The details of all the condiments are actually made up of glass beads! According to Khoo, the dress took 400 hours of craftsmanship and was completed in a month.
“My team and I wanted to give James something unique and iconic to wear at this year’s competition. Nasi Lemak is a dish that can only be found in Malaysia and it is a food that can be enjoyed by all.
“We felt it would make the perfect costume to depict the uniqueness of Malaysia.”
