“Sex Sells!” – It’s Hard To Believe That Malays Used This Method In The Past!!!

It’s surprising how much has changed in the Malaysian media nowadays. I know some of you might be thinking that Malaysians now are more into portraying themselves as the Kardashians but what I found over the net, pales in comparison to the past of how media worked.

Last time, believe it or not, Malaysian media used “sex sells” concept for almost all their productions, be it magazines, dramas and even movies.

Malay cinemas especially used and enforced such notion, as sex was a hot topic and sexual contents were used as a primary revolution in local filmmaking. Almost all movies were inspired by erotic movies like American Gigolo and The Blue Lagoon.

Nowadays, Malay movies play around themes like love, status quo and unwilling to pursue risque narratives because of the stricter influence of the Islamic laws.
