Recently, a six-minute-long video has become a hot topic on social media regarding headscarves. While some people might be still unclear on this subject, let us clarify a few things!
The video that was uploaded to social media last Friday, January 5, had garnered over 6,000 shares and more than 700,000 views. In the video, a man clad in sports attire can be seen approaching a group of women at a bus stop in Indonesia.
The man allegedly asked the group of women what religion they belonged to. After one of the group claimed to be Muslim, the man proceeds to ask her why she was not wearing a headscarf.
When she told the man that wearing the hijab was their choice, the man became visibly agitated. He reportedly continued to chastise her, while she ignored him. After berating the woman, the man slaps the woman across her head.
The women all stood up and defended the victim against the furious man, though they should’ve done so before that.
Many Muslims consider the choice to wear hijab as part of one’s relationship with God, and something that is intimate and personal. How one honors their relationship with God is not for random strangers to judge!
While some angry netizens are advising the women to lodge a police report, others added that Islam is not about condemnation as they pointed out that the man appears to be mentally disturbed.
Only God will know if he is mentally disturbed, but he should never lay his hand on the woman!
