Rembau MP Khairy Jamaluddin has called on Umno members to move forward and continue with the rejuvenation process for the party after the High Court here convicted its former president Najib Tun Razak on seven charges.
Khairy who is the Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation said the court decision had a big impact on Umno.
The former UMNO Youth chief said, everyone, has the right to provide moral support to Najib. “I hope the Umno party is not dragged along in the case. I am confident that Umno members will continue to be loyal to the party beyond our loyalty to any individual in the party.
“The time has come for us to rebuild this sacred UMNO party and for us to look at a transition of the lead generation that will bring the party to a new era,” he was quoted as saying in his blog today.
Meanwhile, Najib said, he respected Khairy’s call to rebuild Umno and carry out the rejuvenation process which was deemed to be his personal view after he was convicted of 7 corruption charges.
“Everyone has the right to have their own opinion. For me, that is his personal view, “he said.
Najib said he was ready to accept any decision that Umno would make, following the court’s judgment.
The Pekan MP described Umno’s open stance in line with its own principles.
“I do not know (what Umno will decide), but I am a party member, so I will abide by the party’s decision,” he said following the statement by Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi that the party will make a big political decision following Najib’s case today.
Asked if he felt persecuted by the prison and the fine, Najib said: “No, because this is not ‘the end of the world’. There is an appeal process and hope to succeed at that stage, efforts must continue.
“For my supporters, I hope you trust me and will not leave me.”
Najib admitted he was disappointed with the sentence imposed on him, but he would file an appeal as soon as possible to clear his name.
“I am very disappointed with the judgment in the SRC case because we are confident that Shafee Abdullah and my lawyer have put forward arguments that can lead to many doubts in this case, but it is not accepted.
“I hope when this case is brought to the Court of Appeal, it will be heard immediately because I want to continue the effort to clear my name and I will continue this struggle.”
He also reiterated that he did not ask for or was offered RM42 million.
“I have repeated my oath not to ask or offer or to the best of my knowledge I know about the RM42 million that is said to be in my account.
“So, this is a confession because I want to state firmly that my stance is true.
“I am willing to swear twice so that it will be recorded in the firm and true confession I made.”
He hopes his appeal will be tried as best as possible because only one judge makes a decision in the High Court compared to a panel of 3 judges in the Court of Appeal.

Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaludin has clarified he was not being rude when he advised Umno to move forward and away from convicted former president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
The Rembau MP said that he was merely stating something factual, which was hard for some to digest.
“I had no intentions to be rude towards Najib. He has his right to appeal. I merely want Umno to look and move forward.
“That is a norm when one states the truth, but that is bitter,” Utusan Malaysia reported him saying last night.
“I am loyal to my party. I merely stated something many are having in mind, but perhaps are afraid to say it out.
“I am not concerned if the messenger is shot, but if the message brought is ignored, Umno will always be looked down by the people,” Khairy was reported saying.
