I still don’t know why people get a pet when they can’t commit to taking care of it. You know once you buy them or adopt them, they rely on you to survive.
A pit bull named Blue King (Blue for short) was sent to a high-kill shelter because his family decided to move and they don’t want to take the dog to the new home. When Blue was offered a treat, he sniffed it but didn’t eat it. The only thing Blue did was cry behind the bars of his kennel door. You know when a dog doesn’t eat a treat, something must be awfully wrong.
Blue was surrendered to Carson Shelter in California, and since this shelter is a high-kill facility, the longer Blue stayed there, the higher the chances of his euthanasia got.
Tears were dripping from his eyes, but some speculate that it was due to allergies. Eventually, a few volunteers noticed Blue’s more-than-sad face and decided to help the pooch, shot a video of him and uploaded it to Facebook, hoping someone would notice him and would adopt him.
Fortunately, a woman named Jennifer McKay went to meet Blue, she said,
“He looked very sad and depressed. He wouldn’t even acknowledge me at all. All the other dogs were making eye contact and wagging their tails, but he wouldn’t stand up, wouldn’t come see me.”
Mckay would have taken Blue home right away, but the shelter has to perform a temperament test on him first before he can go to a home. While she waited for the test to be done, McKay visited Blue again, bringing him a bone and a new doggy bed.
“I got a little bit of attention from him. He wouldn’t let me pet him or anything. But he liked his bed for sure.”
On McKay’s third visit, Blue finally perked up,
“He came straight to me!”
After a whole week, the temperament test is finally done and McKay immediately took him home, once they got Blue out of his kennel, his whole demeanor changed.
“He kind of tricked me, I was expecting to get a really laid back, chill dog, but as soon as the gates opened in the kennel, he was super excited. And he loved riding in the car. He wanted to stick his head out the window.”
Blue even has his spot on the couch, besides sleeping, Blue loves cuddles, belly rubs and gazing into mirrors.
“He’s obsessed with looking at himself in the mirror. We have a vanity that comes down to about his level, and he just sits there and smile at himself and wags his tail.”
Although Blue still has a lot to learn, like basic commands and how to walk on a leash, he is a very happy dog now and is doing just fine!
Most importantly, Blue isn’t crying anymore.
So how can you say that animals have no feelings? Cause they sure do! Remember to always adopt, promote pet adoption, don’t buy them from pet stores!
