There is no doubt that many of us are guilty of mobile devices addiction. Yet there is some people’s addiction is beyond healthy level and causes severe health issues. That is exactly what happened to a 29-year-old man from China.
In order to advance in a mobile game last month, the man pushed his limit to play indefinitely for two days straight. His fixated his head looking down for 48 hours and by the third day morning, he suddenly felt pain and stiffness in his neck. Soon to find out that all of his four limbs were paralyzed, completely unmovable.
He was sent to Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hospital immediately. After magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan and several other tests, it was found that his paralysis was caused by severe blood clots in his cervical spinal tube that pressed against his spinal cord.
The orthopedic specialist said that the patient’s habit of looking down at his phone for long hours caused the hazardous condition and the last two nights of unstoppable playing ultimately triggered the complete paralysis at both his legs and hands.
After a detailed discussion, taking account of the patient’s age and condition, the doctor developed a personalized surgical plan for him.
Fortunately, the surgery was a success, the doctors were able to remove the blood clots affecting his nervous system.
The 29-year-old would still need to go through several rounds of physiotherapy and a huge amount of resting in order to recover completely and start walking again.
“I will listen to what the doctors said. I would never dare to stay up late to play the phone again,” said the man in regret.
Well, it was a lucky escape for him. We must know that everyone of us has a breakable body. We may not feel the effect of our body bending and pushing its limit, but once it breaks, it would be too late for us. Remember, moderation in all things peeps!
