We understand that gaming is fun! It is something you do to pass time or release stress, either way, it’s meant to be done in leisure unless you’re in a competitive team that is representing your state or country, you should play in moderation.
Excessive gaming till the point it interferes with a person’s everyday life is now classified as a mental health condition and if you didn’t know China was the first country to declare ‘internet addiction’ as a clinical disorder in 2008!
Too bad for this young Chinese man, 20-hours of intensive gaming continuously should sound awesome to many avid gamers but it has left him paralyzed from the waist down last week.
According to Chinese social media QQ.com, the man was reportedly playing video games at a cybercafe in Jiaxing, Zhejiang from the evening of January 27 until the afternoon of January 28. However, he only realized he could not move his lower limbs when he wanted to take a toilet break.
One of his friends who were present at the scene said,
“It seems he had lost sensation completely, and couldn’t move at all. We had to call for an ambulance.”
After the ambulance arrived, the man was quickly put on a stretcher by medical staff and prepared to be sent to the hospital. However, the man was still reluctant to abandon his game and begged his friends to finish the game on his behalf.
Though it remains unclear what game the man had been playing, we also do not know if his friend actually finished the game for him.
Daily Mail noted that an alarming number of young people are choosing to play online games, mobile games, or surf the web instead of prioritizing their studies or even family.
Below is the video of the incident where the man’s friend and paramedics working together to move the paralyzed man from a chair to a stretcher.
