Real Madrid striker, Alvaro Morata has defended his fellow Real Madrid teammate, Ronaldo for missing out on a lot of goal scoring opportunities which could send them ahead in the game.
Karim Benzema got his name on the scoresheet at the 8th minute to give Real Madrid the goal lead but Athletic Bilbao then equalised 20 minutes later. Alvaro Morata then scored the late winner to secure an important three points for Los Blancos.
Ronaldo is having his worst start in his Real Madrid career but Morata has revealed the Portuguese international’s importance to the team.
“When you’re used to scoring almost 70 goals a season, its almost like an addiction for goals.”
“For us, he is the most important player in the team and I hope that he scores lots of goals, but he is not a machine.”
“He is a human being, even if he comes from another planet and is different, he also has the right to miss.” Morata said, via the club’s website.
Morata has only started 4 games out of nine for this campaign but has hinted that he will continue to wait patiently for more playing time under manager, Zinedine Zidane.
“Everyone wants to always play, in every possible game, but its difficult. I feel important in the squad.”
“We’ve got 25 players and Zidane’s job is hard to choose who’ll play. A good problem.”
“We are a team and are about winning together, which is what we have done. Zidane gave me a hug and congratulated me, and now we have to keep working.” Morata added.
