Breaking News : Rosmah In Court To Face 20th Charge – Money Laundering, Tax Evasion And Accepting Bribes

IRosmah Mansor, the wife of former prime minister Najib Razak, was at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today to face yet another charge, adding to the 19 charges she already faces over money laundering, tax evasion and accepting bribes.

The charge today is the third linked to a project to generate electricity for 369 schools in rural Sarawak.

She is accused of receiving RM5 million from Saidi Abang Samsudin, managing director of Jepak Holdings, the company which got a RM1.25 billion contract from the education ministry through direct negotiation.

The money was said to have been delivered by her aide Rizal Mansor.

The offence allegedly took place on Dec 20, 2016.

If found guilty under Section 16 (a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, she faces a maximum of 20 years in jail and a fine of not less than five times the sum of gratification or RM10,000, whichever is higher.

Rosmah, who was represented by lawyer Akberdin Abdul Kader, claimed trial to the charge when it was read in court.

‘Full-time housewife’

Deputy public prosecutor Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar had earlier requested for RM1 million bail with one surety.

But Rosmah’s lawyer Akberdin said a bail was to ensure attendance and not to punish the accused.

“She has already been charged and she is a full-time housewife. The RM1 million bail is too high. We request to use the bail from the previous case.”

Sessions Court judge Azura Alwi allowed her to maintain the RM1 million bail for her two previous bribery charges in connection with the project.

Rosmah pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court last November to two counts of bribery linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.

In the first charge, Rosmah is accused of asking RM187.5 million in gratification from Saidi to help in approving the project.

In the second charge, she is accused of accepting RM1.5 million from Saidi to help the company acquire the same project.
