The people of Hong Kong were put in danger when a 60-year-old man, Cheung Kam Fai, decides to throw a firebomb in a crowded MTR train during peak hour on last Friday night!
Commuters were panicking and scrambling all over the platform as they were frightened of what had occurred and this created a wave of chaos, which forced the authorities to shut down one of the busiest transport interchanges.
It was reported that 17 people had been injured, so far.
According to the police, the man was heard saying “burn you to death” before throwing a lit up Molotov cocktail (petrol bomb) when the train was arriving at the TST platform. And in this event, even the man who caused the chaos become a human fireball.
For now, police have announced that the whole act was due to personal reasons and is not a terrorist act, however, they are not ruling out the possibility. Only after further investigating the case, they would be able to confirm what had really gone down.
It was discovered that the suspect was a married man who had a son and daughter. His records also showed that he had minor offences in the past like gambling. Investigations also showed that he had a very poor relationship with his wife. Could this mean that this whole fire incident started off just because of family dispute?
The police are now still confused and are trying to determine, whether this man was actually trying to set himself on fire or he was intentionally trying to attack other passengers.
Kam Fai who had been badly injured as the fire he started also ate him up, was quickly sent to the Prince of Wales Hospital in Sha Tin. He is currently said to be in a critical condition.
