Leicester’s Riyad Mahrez and Jamie Vardy have been nominated for the 2016 Ballon D’Or for their outstanding contribution for Leicester to be crown Premier League champions.
The duo become Leicester’s first ever players to be nominated for the Ballon D’Or, however Leicester City manager, Claudio Ranieri insist that they must keep on performing or they will be dropped.
Leicester City have failed to retain their last season’s superb form and had seen both of their star players being dropped. Mahrez was a substitute against Chelsea while Vardy was also on the bench against Crystal Palace.
“To be nominated for the golden ball is something special, I’m very proud.”
“They deserved it and I hope they can go again to make the very short list. Everywhere players want to win but also the nomination is very important.” Ranieri said,
The manager also responded to Mahrez and Vardy being on the bench.
“I take them out the squad and that keeps them on the ground. Everyday they must show they are strong and they want to improve and they are ambitious. That is my philosophy.”
“What we did, is the past. Everyday is new, the future. If you dont run there is no future. Everyday they must proof themselves hungry.” Ranieri added.
