It has been less than 24 hours since Customs director-general Datuk Subromaniam Tholasy made a statement regarding the imposing of Goods and Services Tax (GST) on 60 other food items this coming 1st of July 2017.
However, the latest update on this is that the authorities has cancelled all plans on it. (Is this a joke?)
As seen on The Star Online’s Facebook Page, many netizens were furious and posted many negative and sarcastic comments regarding the GST taxes for these items.
According to NST, Subromaniam said that under P.U. (A) 162 Goods and Services Tax (Zero Rated Supply) (Amendment) (No. 2) 2017, it would have led to GST being imposed on more than 60 food items.
He even mentioned the several food items that will be imposed with tax including certain types of seafood, vegetables, fruits, tea, coffee, and spices would be subjected to the 6% GST rate effective July 1.
Anyways, it’s no joke that the authorities has cancelled this planning, and no one has any clue what is going on internally.
Well, we can all just be happy that this news is true, and that we don’t have to burn a hole in our pockets to buy groceries. Let’s just hope it stays this way.
