The Malays Are Divided Into 5 Blocs While The Chinese Are United Into 1 Bloc – UMNO Caught In Its Own Web Of Racism & Corruption

The credit should go to the Hindraf uprising in 2007. The ethnic-Indian started the ball-rolling to the eventual collapse of Barisan Nasional (BN) coalition government, after ruling for 61 years since independence in 1957. The ethnic-Chinese were dumbfounded by the sudden Indians rebellion. They suddenly realised the basic foundation of defeating the enemy – stays united.

When DAP (Democratic Action Party) finally took over Penang in the 2008 general election, Mahathir Mohamad, who was then still with BN and his protégé Najib Razak, said Penang was lost forever. The “political tsunami” in 2008 was so massive that BN saw with disbelief how the opposition took control of five states – Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan.

DAP was smart enough to lock the Indian voters by making P. Ramasamy the Deputy Chief Minister II of Penang and appointed V. Sivakumar the Speaker of the state assembly of Perak. Ethnic-Indians support was greatly appreciated. Of course, the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat government in Perak didn’t last long when it collapsed in March 2009, following betrayals and a constitutional crisis.

Unfortunately, it didn’t take long for the Malaysian Indians to eventually disintegrate from its initial united force, with many flocking back to the Barisan Nasional after the ruling government thrown more candies and sweets. The Malaysian Chinese, however, have chosen to remain united since 2008, 2013 and ultimately the 2018 general elections.

Ex-PM Najib Razak had tried to lure the Chinese with more goodies than he had offered the Indians, but to no avail. Heck, he had even tried to swing the Chinese sentiment by flying Psy of “Opah Gangnam Style” to Penang in 2013. They didn’t take the bait. They did not need to be told how to take BN’s cash, eat BN’s food and enjoy BN’s entertainment – but vote for the opposition anyway.

If 2008 was the Indians’ tsunami and 2013 was the Chinese’ tsunami, the recent 2018 general election has been indeed the Malays’ tsunami. To be fair, Najib didn’t have many good options on the table. It was his mistake. Had he seriously started wooing back the Chinese hearts right after the 2013 election, he might still walk the corridors of power today.

Sure, all the pro-BN cybertroopers, propagandists, bloggers, analysts and whatnot blame the Malays for not being united. The Malays are divided into 5 blocs while the Chinese are united into 1 bloc. Why can’t the Malays re-united? Heck, the Chinese are so united that even members of MCA and Gerakan, two component parties of BN, had voted for the opposition.

Amusingly, those experts still haven’t figure out that it was UMNO’s own game of racism and corruption which had gotten not only the Chinese united as 1 strong bloc, but also the reason why the Malays divided into 5 separate blocs. Constantly used as a punching bag by the UMNO-Malays, the minority Chinese are forced to stay united for the sake of survival.

Unlike 23.2% minority ethnic-Chinese in Malaysia, the 68.8% majority Malays and Bumiputeras aren’t concerned about being discriminated. Hence, they are spoilt with choices – UMNO, PAS, PKR, Amanah, and PPBM. And that was only in Peninsula Malaysia, mind you. The primary reason why the UMNO-Malays lost so spectacularly is because the corruption went out of control.

1MDB scandal happened because Najib and his wife Rosmah were not satisfied stealing only millions. They got greedy and wanted billions. This gave birth to the highly unpopular GST tax program to replenish the drying coffers due to excessive looting. To weaken the old opposition Pakatan Rakyat, Najib bribed PAS’ President Hadi Awang RM90 million to quit from the coalition.

Now that UMNO has lost its power, what is his brother PAS’ reaction when asked for help in the Sungai Kandis by-election? PAS Vice-President Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah said the Islamist party’s decision not to contest in the by-election should not be construed as supporting Barisan Nasional. He said – “We are not going down to the ground to help in campaigning.”

With friends like PAS, who needs enemies? Yes, UMNO, now alone, finds out the hard way that money cannot buy true friends. In fact, the once mighty BN is reduced to only 3 component parties from previously 13. Like it or not, the Chinese-based MCA and Indian-based MIC, the same parties which UMNO used to abuse and insult, are the true friends of UMNO for staying loyal in the BN.

Yet, UMNO continues to stir up racial sentiments among the Malays, bitching about Chinese controlling Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad in its attempt to allegedly turn Christianity into the “official religion”. It also claims that Malays were offended with the issues of non-Malay appointments as the Attorney-General, Chief Justice, Finance Minister, de-facto Law Minister and whatnot.

UMNO doesn’t appear to realise that it is digging a deeper hole for itself as everyone, including its ally PAS, are watching with popcorn and Coke. PAS is actually smarter than UMNO. They knew which side of the bread is buttered. Without free flow of money, the Islamist party can offer no honey for UMNO anymore. UMNO is trapped – with neither support from kafir Chinese nor Muslim brothers PAS.

Looking at the rewards, the Chinese will most likely stay united for at least 10 years. However, that doesn’t mean they will forever support DAP, the opposition party which is now part of the ruling government. When the time comes for the Chinese to swing their votes, will BN, assuming the coalition still exist, ready to treat them with fairness and dignity, without oppression, racism and discrimination?

Minorities tend to unite in elections. African-Americans vote Democrats by more than 90%. British Asians vote labour not as overwhelmingly, but quite a lot. The Coloured vote (including Cape Malays) go mainly to the Democratic Alliance. Majorities can afford to disagree and split, and splits are actually quite important as it allows a diversity of ideas to compete. Minorities have less of that luxury.

On that note, it’s worth remembering that African-Americans used to vote Republicans, before both parties swapped places on social issues. There are no guarantees.
