We as children should be giving back to our parents when we reach a certain age, or when we are financially stable enough! But not this man, as he burned down his family home in Kuantan after his mother refused to give him money.
A day prior to the incident, neighbors say the 33-year-old unemployed man was angry with his mother and had made threats, but no one believed he would really do it.
As reported by NST, one of the neighbors who identified himself as Nazmi said he heard the son threatening to retaliate by burning the house when the mother refused to give him money. However, Nazmi and other villagers intervened by advising the man.
“I even called the imam for advice and managed to cool things down then. We never expect him to do it.”
He added that the suspect had past issues with drug addiction.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Norzamri Abd Rahman said the suspect was arrested after the fire on Friday, January 19. Police investigations point to the same motive as to what the villagers claimed.
“There were no casualties in the fire as the suspect’s mother, 66, had gone to live with another son due to the suspect’s aggressive behavior of the suspect.”
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department deputy director Mohd Sani Harul said that they received a call at 2.27 pm on Friday and successfully doused the flames within 30 minutes.
“Upon receiving information on the incident, a police team rushed to the scene and successfully apprehended the suspect within the vicinity of the house. It is believed the suspect started the fire by burning a mattress in the house.”
Although the fire department successfully doused the flames, the fire destroyed about 80% of the brick and wooden house, causing losses amounting to about RM90,000!
“The suspect is unemployed and has a criminal record. He has been detained under Section 436 of the Penal Code for causing mischief with fire.”
