Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor says he will not declare his assets to the public due to fears he and his family will be targeted by criminals.
He said this response to PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil, who said Tengku Adnan and city mayor Datuk Seri Mohd Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz should publicly declare their assets to show commitment to the principles of transparency.
“I declare my assets directly to the Najib every year,” said the Federal Territories Minister.
“I used to be a businessman and have a lot of assets. I am also afraid if I declare, my children and wife may be kidnapped, people could rob us – anything can happen.
“As for the mayor, he declares his assets to the Chief Secretary to the Government (Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa).
I have instructed the mayor and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) to discuss the best way to approach the matter with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).
“So DBKL will be sharing information on how much assets, account names and so on in the coming week.
“It goes the same for the Federal Territories Ministry, including Putrajaya and Labuan,” he said on Aug 21 at the launch of 10th National Defense Medical Center (NMDC) Worldwide Alumni Convention in Pullman Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
