This is really something we don’t want happening to us or our daughters.
A 15-year-old Thai girl claimed that over 40 men have sexually violated her last year in the quiet village of Ban Koh Raed in Phang Nga’s Takua Thung district.
Yuttanakorn Juanjenkij, a governing official in Tambon Loryoong said the locals are concerned on the negative publicity affecting their village.
“Local residents are ready to cooperate with police.”
The Ban Koh Raed village is home to about 180 people, everyone is generally close as they’re a small village and some residents expressed regret and scepticism about the claim that more than 40 men were involved in sexual assault. That means at least one-fifth of residents were involved in child rape!
“Think about children who live in the village. They feel stress as such a claim means their fathers may be suspects.
“Local residents here are generally close. It is really hard for them to believe such a large-scale crime could have happened in their neighbourhood.” Yuttanakorn added.
Apparently, the girl’s parents are rubber tappers who happens to work at night, their work forced them to leave her alone at home at the time when the attack reportedly took place. She claimed she was first raped by an assailant at her home then she was brought to huts in the area where she was drugged and gang raped by multiple perpetrators.
Chanon Abdullah, who works for the Phuket branch of the Muslim for Peace Foundation, said the number of alleged rapists was based on the victim’s testimony and added that his foundation had assisted the victim and her family since June.
“She is now very fragile emotionally. She feels pain whenever she has to answer about what happened and recount her ordeal.”
The victim allegedly kept quiet about the months-long sexual assaults out of concerns for the safety of her family as she lives with her mother, stepfather and her younger brother. He also added that the girl had been interview by a multi-disciplinary team.
The Social Development and Human Security Ministry helped the family to relocate out of the village after the victim’s mother lodged a complaint with police against the first 3 suspects.
Dr Hataichonnanee Booncharoen, director of Southern Institute of Child and Adolescent Mental Health, said officials had already conducted examinations of the villager’s psychological conditions.
“Some have had minor symptoms such as stress, anxiety, and insomnia.
“But others have had serious problems such as suicidal thoughts.”
Hataichonnanee said those with suicidal tendencies needed to receive urgent treatment.
Police deputy spokesman Pol Colonel Krissana Pattanacharoen said that the police are in the process of seeking arrest warrants for additional suspects after more had been identified.
Wow, what’s wrong with these men? Why are they so sexually deprived?
What are your thoughts?
