I guess it’s safe to say that not only working adults are feeling the pinch of the current economy, even the college students are put on the edge of surviving.
Not many students are actually ‘gifted’ with rich families and still get to misuse their PTPTN loan, in fact, there are much more students who struggle to survive even with the PTPTN loan as all of it pretty much just goes to their education fees.
So what are they left with? Savings of the ‘scraps’ from the loan, that is.
Recently, a man, Suhaizan Kayat, revealed the heartbreaking truth of what some of the students in Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) goes through.

It is apparent that in his video he had interviewed a 55-year-old man who is the owner of one of the food stalls near the University. Baharudin Omar shared how heart-wrenching it was for him to see some of the students eating only a serving of plain rice covered in a layer of curry, just to save up their money.
He also added a scary statistic, based on his own encounters, that last time, 2 out of 10 students would resort to this method of saving money, however now, easily 8-9 out of 10 of these students are doing this.
It seems that this story had even reached her Highness the Queen of Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah binti Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah. The queen suggested to some of her acquaintances to set up “Because We Care” fund in UTHM just like how they have this programme in UTM.
If children now are facing these difficulties, one could only wonder how it would be like for the future generation.
