Malaysia : Malay Girl Asks The Public Not To Judge Other Muslim Women Who Do Not Wear The Hijab

IKA ZY, A MALAY GIRL WITH A HEART OF GOLD IS ASKING THE GENERAL PUBLIC TO NOT JUDGE OTHER MUSLIM WOMEN WHO DO NOT WEAR THE HIJAB

“Well, i don’t wear hijab just simply because I don’t want. And I don’t see what’s the point of wearing hijab if Ur not sincere about it. Most importantly I’m not hypocrite and I don’t wake up every single day to impress judgmental hypocrites like you guys. X guna kalau pkai hijab sembahyang tunggang terbalik Tp hati busuk & tak ikhlas (no offense), that is what I believed. And you guys need to stop judging people just because they sin differently than you. Humanity come first.

In a country where race and religion is still a touchy subject to even hover upon, many Malaysians usually try to avoid it. The reason is just so that they do not have to be involved in any unnecessary arguments and debates about it, just comes to show that the mentality of many Malaysians are yet very conservative.

With the recent news from last year about the Princess of Johor and her decision not to wear the hijab to the Unconditional love to stray dogs provided by a Malay lady. All these seem to really bother netizens from Malaysia. You can read more about it in the attached links.

However today’s story concerns on the subject matter of whether Muslim women should be wearing their hijabs of not? (Now, now, don’t jump into conclusions yet. Allow me the opportunity to tell you the full story and try to stay objective about it.)

Recently, in just 21 hours (That’s less than a day!) the Facebook group Politicalgags posted a post along with a few picture that has since garnered over one thousand shares!

The reason why it has garnered that many shares is because it’s apparently a “controversial” posting to many. Controversial in a sense where people bring in religion and race into the comment sections to fuel an already dangerous fire.

In the posting, the Facebook group Politicalgags captioned, “Dont judge a person base on their appearance, Sometime their heart is more beautiful than another muslim woman with hijab. She is a Malay and a muslim! (Siapa yang kata wanita muslim yang tak menutup aurat sama seperti pelacur dan perangai macam syaitan??)”. Ending the post with a caption, #Dontjudgeonapprearance.

While Politicalgags may have made the apprerance of Ika Zy (Girl featured in the photos) famous, the story behind it was that the Facebook group of KL Pooch Rescue posted a statement thanking Ika and Eric (Ika’s friend) for rescuing Yuri (Dog’s given name) when they found him under the Sungai Besi Expressway.

The event had actually happened late last year in the month of November. Just that Politicalgags may have picked it up and was touched by such a great story of Ika rescuing the dog.

Below are the photos of Ika and Yuri when she was found under the expressway.

So I did some research and found out that the source of the photos were from the KL Pooch Rescue and the post was full of delightful and thankfulness towards the two who had rescue Yuri the dog. None of the comments were negative at all, not even in the post when shared by Ika towards her own personal page.

Only as soon as Politicalgags had posted the photos with a caption that had a religious connection to it concerning Ika being a Malay woman and her not wearing a hijab but still having a heart bigger than those who do not. Then only then, it started to fuel a bigger flame full of people against her personal decision of not wearing the hijab and also touching the dog.11703195_419602484910372_8436524987079836456_n

Ika also commented in the post…

“Well, i don’t wear hijab just simply because I don’t want. And I don’t see what’s the point of wearing hijab if Ur not sincere about it. I can’t say for sure who’s wrong nor who’s right, but I can say that everyone has their right to their freedom of speech and if Ika wishes to not wear the hijab, it is really up to her. Her religious practice and relationship is between God and her. In addition, she isn’t hurting or annoying anyone (especially those who criticizes her on Facebook).

To add a little, the Sultan of Johor has mentioned recently insisting that Malaysians Malays to not be like Arabs by discarding the unique culture and traditions built upon for centuries. You can read more about it in the link here.

In addition, the ruler of Johor made a statement late last year that wearing a hijab and becoming more like “Arabs” doesn’t make you any more holier than those who do good work in the name of Allah. He stated as quoted, “…besides being a religious attire, the hijab was a cultural attire for the Arabs as it protected the wearer from the heat or sandstorms.”.

I still don’t get how people can be so annoyed with something someone else is doing that doesn’t even affect them. I guess people online are just trying to feed their beliefs and wanting to be right all the time. In that case, these people aren’t making a change whatsoever in the world, unlike Ika.

Remember, this article isn’t about who’s right or wrong, which race is better or whatever that concerns race and religion. Instead the main purpose of it is to focus on good voluntary work such as what Ika and Eric did. Kudos to the both of them again for giving a better life now to one of God’s creation, Yuri.
