“Shoes Were Thrown” -Intense Drama Unfolds As A Group Of Malay People ‘Steals’ A Car Park Spot!

I believe that every Malaysian driver surely had this experiences of fighting for a parking spot, especially during the peak hours in a shopping mall or night markets, right?

According to Moretify, a young lady who named Ann shared a video on Facebook to rant how she and her friends were being bullied by a group of Malay family after their long-awaited parking slot was rudely “stolen” by the family.

According to Ann’s status, she moved her car in front of the parking spot with the signal on. However, the Malay driver who came after her parked straight into the parking spot without any hesitation.

Ann who couldn’t stand with his rude actions, winded down her car window to confront the Malay driver. However, what she got from the Malay driver was an arrogant reply, asking her to find another parking spot as he parked first despite the fact that she had already been waiting for it.

What makes the incident more ridiculous is the fact that one of the Malay ladies in the family showed her ‘powerful’ middle finger to Ann and her friends who stayed in the car. Ann and her friends did not fight back but start to take video of how they were bullied by the family.

Out of the sudden, the Malay ladies start to remove both of her shoes and started throwing to Ann’s car. I wonder how the lady walked away without her shoes. *facepalm*

Now let’s watch the video that took by Ann while she was being bullied by the Malay family. You will surely get irritated while watching this video. Try to imagine if you were Ann, what would you do?

After the family left the parking lot, she went down her car to check the condition. This is her car’s condition after all the ‘drama’! Seriously, I cannot understand how are the children in this family are being educated by their rude relatives who behave like uncivilised people.

The lesson of the day: Be patient la, people!

            Since it’s, I quote, ‘everywhere’.

I also experienced similar thing before. I was at mid valley and entered a row of parking lots, when I noticed an uncle leaving, so I put my signal up and waited. In the opposite direction came a fancy dolled up wira car (it’s a one way street), and he wanted to snatch the spot. But because the uncle left in that direction, he couldn’t snatch it. The group of Malay ppl in he car gave me hard stares and keep rounding the place, I dare not leave my car till they left. They’re like hooligans

  3. Adian Yein

    June 1, 2017 at 08:52

Guys. Can we start refraining from referring to people or their families by race? Don’t have to mention a “chinese lady” and “malay family”. Doesn’t make it any better and just increases racial biasness and tension. I don’t see quality news reports in US for example that refer to the person or people in the news as “a black man” or “a white family”.

Spot on. I have encountered 2 events in the parking lot involving different races & same races but both with big cars. Its the people. That very individual. I agreed with comment above that upbringing plays an important role in how individuals shaped their characters. So much agreed with Adian as the writeup is sooooo biased, lousy and inciting hate towards a certain race. I wonder what kind of values does the writer trying to inculcate in his/her readers and how would he/she as a parent sow the same negative ? values to his/her offspring.

That being said, I absolutely agree with the comments regarding the use of race to describe the situation. Not necessary at all. Anyone who watches the video can see the two groups clearly enough without you needing to mention it. By highlighting race, you make it the BIGGER issue rather than the blatant disregard of common courtesy as well as intolerance and violence shown by the individuals in the video.

Please be more responsible in your journalism efforts.

In Malaysia we try not to refer to certain quarters by their race just because of such incidence. Be mindful that most of us were brought up with pure respect for others regardless of their race or religion. No need for such provocative phrases.
We are Malaysians. Can one guarantee that this sort of incident will not be committed by any other races? One definitely can’t. No one’s perfect. So, just be patient and stay out of trouble. God bless Malaysia.

This shouldn’t be turned into a racial criticism. What that lady and her family did was absolutely wrong. But this should be treated as an individual case and not a “racial” case. Shame on you the coverage for being so racist by sparking hatred between races. Instead of saying “Malay group”, why don’t you just say “a group of people”. You clearly stated Ann’s name but deliberately chose to be bias when it comes to the Malay family. Worst write up ever! Please convey news responsibly. We want united Malaysians and you’re not helping at all.

  31. Edrina

    June 1, 2017 at 23:30

A couple of thoughts about this article:

    1. As other readers have commented, the racial profiling is not necessary. To the author, ” Xiao Mintz”, you have deliberately used a negative adjective following the use of the word “Malay” in your article. Unbeknown to the casual reader, you are subconsciously creating a negative perception of the entire race- isn’t this the power of media being exploited?

    2. This is a one sided story. Sorry Ann, you had to go through this and the lady’s actions is not justifiable. However, think about it, the lady would’ve rather walked without shoes in order to express her anger- so what fueled it? The camera phone in her face, or probably words that Ann might’ve said.

    3. The grammar of the entire article is awful. Xiao Mintz, I suggest you learn how to write in English before racially profiling people.

    4. With the recent debacle of the front page of the Star, people are even more sensitive and rightly so. All these subtle hints and attacks to the Muslims/Malays is ridiculous in a nation that is trying to develop. To all journalists out there, don’t contribute to cause a larger divide.

  32. Annaeh

    June 1, 2017 at 23:46

From the way the article is written the writer is unabashedly racist and perhaps not educated enough. Anyone who is not a racist or at least uncomfortable with their racist tendencies would have been more sensitive with their choice of words, likewise someone who is better educated and properly brought up. Some of the commenters are obviously also of the same ilk as the writer.

  33. PW Gan

    June 2, 2017 at 00:23

In the original post which is in Mandarin, the author did not mention race at all. In fact he stated that this he nothing to do with race and it’s a problem with personality instead.

Regardless of who is at fault at first, this is not the Malaysian way. I’m not going to blame race or religion. I strongly believe this is the problem with their personality and anger management. Remember the story of the Peugeot business woman who hit an uncle’s car with a car steering lock because he slightly caused a scratch on her car? No good ever comes in harsh confrontation. Patience is virtue.

However, I do believe that the lady who threw her slippers has to be arrested and fined as she has caused damage to someone else’s car and was a public nuisance by slamming on their window.
