After an entire week of excessive eating, drinking and total lack of exercise during Chinese New Year, you may have noticed a bigger waist and rounder face – fret not!
Suki Li from MyRedStar asked a professional yoga teacher for advice, and shared it so you can still look stunning after an entire week of gluttony! Here’s a few yoga postures to regain your pre-CNY body:
Step 1: Half Boat Posture
Having a smaller waist is probably the most common desire: Sit up straight, and bend your legs. Press your hands against the floor behind your back and raise your half-bent legs with your shins parallel to the floor. Balancing on your pelvic bones, straighten your arms in front of you level with your shins. Try to keep your back straight.
Step 2: Full Boat Posture
Slowly and controlled, straighten your legs. Keep your arms parallel to the floor and focus on a particular spot for your balance. Keep your abdomen tight.
Step 3: Eagle Pose Right
It helps to tighten the abdomen, buttocks and inner thighs, as well as stretch the scapular. Stand up straight. Bend your knees slightly, lift your left foot and cross your left thigh over the right. Hook the top of the left foot behind your right calf.
Stretch your arms to the sides parallel to the floor. Bend your elbows and raise your forearms perpendicular to the floor. Put your right elbow over your left elbow and press your palms together. Look in the direction of your fingertips.
Step 4: Downward Facing Dog Pose
Sit on your heels, lower your head on the mat, and stretch your arms forward. Push with your hands and straighten your legs. Extend your pelvic bones up and press your heels down. Let your head hang freely, stretch your waist. Your body becomes an inverted V-shape.
Step 5: Downward Facing Dog Pose, Right Leg Up
Start with the Downward Facing Dog Pose, lift your right leg without rotating your right hip. It helps to strengthen your leg flexibility, as well as keep your legs slim.
Step 6: Revolved King Pigeon Pose
Left leg curled back to the thigh, right leg pointing back behind your body, then bend the right leg back, and lock it with your right arm. Try to keep your right foot close to your body. Facing right, then fully stretch the left side of your waist, this can help with losing fat.
Step 7: Upward Bow Pose
Lie on your back. Firmly press your feet against the floor. Press your hands against the floor level with your ears. Push with your hands and feet lifting your pelvis and thighs. Put the crown of your head on the mat. Move some of the weight on your hands. Raise your head and let it hang freely. As you go back, go down with your head first.
Step 8: Upward Bow Pose with Left Leg Up
Based on the upward bow pose, put your right foot in the center and lift your left leg. Straighten your left leg. It helps to make your legs slimmer.
