Certainly, most of us have heard of online dating, whether it is to make friends or get an actual relationship going. Online dating lets you meet and get to know different people from all over the world, depending on your ‘filter’ on the site. But what are the odds to meet your own sibling on an online dating site!
A Singaporean woman, Jessie shared her unfortunate encounter on social media with an online date who turned out to be her own brother. She started off,
“A few months ago, my friend introduced me to this site online, where you can meet strangers around the world through live chatting or video camming.”
Jessie gained confidence and felt more comfortable using the online portal after a few months. She got a little curious to experience a live chat with someone through webcam and so she tried it out, she kept her face out of the camera frame and show only her body.
She quickly realised that many men came to the portal to satisfy their lust, she even recalls seeing an old man sexually stimulating himself as soon as she was connected to a live chat with him. In shock, she immediately disconnects their chat.
Other times, she would encounter shirtless hunks showing off their abs and biceps and asking inappropriate questions like, “Hey, wanna have some fun? :)” or “Babe, do you like what you see?”
Jessie soon grew accustomed to the different types of people she meets online, you get the jizz.
One fateful morning, after chatting with a few strangers, Jessie came across a particular stranger who was anonymous at this point as he kept his face off the webcam as well. Despite that, their conversation was one of the best one she ever had as they both connected on so many levels and had so much in common.
“Lucas* told me he was a Singaporean guy living in Denmark, and I told him I was an Asian Australian, but now living in Singapore – I wanted to keep my real identity safe.”
As time progress, their conversations got more comfortable and flirty, to the point of sending sneaky pictures of themselves to each other, with their faces obscured every time.
Lucas loved seeing Jessie in skimpy dresses and she got excited when he sent shirtless photos of him. As steamy as it gets, Jessie started sending him photos of herself with a plunging neckline to tease him.
As they progress to the next level where they send almost nude pictures to each other, she just felt that she could trust him.
One day, Lucas mustered up the courage and asked Jessie to Skype with him, he said:
“Jessie, do you want to Skype with me tonight? I have strong feelings towards you, and you know that. I think I am ready to meet you.”
Jessie admitted that she really wanted to see his face and this is not the first time he requested this, so she agreed, “Okay, tonight at 9 pm GST time?”
Jessie put on more effort than usual to look good that night, she dolled herself up and put on a top which accentuated her figure. Come 9 pm they connected a video call on Skype, she tilted her laptop screen downwards to angle it towards her neck and chest, exposing her cleavage, he was positioned the same way and his shirt was unbuttoned so she could see his chest and abs.
After exchanging flirtatious chats, they soon agreed to reveal themselves at the count of three. All these while, they have been communicating through typed chat messages, so Lucas started counting down: “One… Two…” At this point, his voice sounded very familiar to Jessie… “Three!” There was Lucas’ face on Jessie’s screen and Jessie’s on Lucas’.
When they saw each other, both their jaws dropped. The face looking back at her was her own biological brother, a few years older than her who was living overseas for work.
Then it hit her, no wonder why some of the backgrounds in his room looked kind of familiar, and her thoughts flew back to all the exchanges they had, the flirty text messages, the teasing and the almost nude photos, the secrets, and the lies.
“He wasn’t even living in Denmark!”
Feeling ashamed and disgusted, Jessie slammed her laptop shut.
“It has been two years since this incident occurred, and nobody knows about it but us. We’ve kept it from our parents, relatives, and friends.”
When they met at family gatherings, the two would just pretend nothing ever happened.
Can you imagine how awkward that must be for the two of them? Man, I don’t know what I’d do if I meet my own sibling on a dating site, on top of that sending almost nude photos.
There is no way you can be careful enough because everyone on online dating sites has fake identity to safeguard their privacy.
