Ace shuttler Tan Boon Heong, 29, had finally tied the knot with his sweetheart of 10 years, beautician Sherlyn Tan Yean Ling, 32 on Monday.
The couple was photographed hand in hand down the aisle, with Boon Heong in a classy tuxedo and Sherlyn in a RM15,000 wedding gown flown in from Paris. It was a small joyful affair for the duo and 90 guests who attended the marriage registration ceremony at Anovia Bridal in Jalan Bagan Jermal.
The badminton ace in the men’s doubles event said that settling down was not part of his plan, but is happy now that he is married to Sherlyn.
“It’s the right thing to do. She is a beautiful woman, and beautiful in heart.
“Her sister introduced us 10 years ago in Kuala Lumpur and we have been together ever since.
“She knew me when I was just starting out in badminton and was not famous.
“Despite my failures, she remained by my side, ever supportive,” he said during the ceremony.
Tan asked Sherlyn for her hand in marriage on June 7, proposing to her at Darling Harbour while in Sydney for the Australia Open.
“We have yet to make plans for our honeymoon because I am preparing for the upcoming China Open and Hong Kong Open,” he said.
The couple’s customary wedding ceremony will be held on Dec 3. The bride and groom, both Kedahans, will hold celebratory dinners in Kuala Lumpur and in their home state.
